Concept Note

As observed in several forums, such as the “African Women’s Economic Summit of 2012,” throughout the decades, African women have progressed significantly in respect of education, health, earning power and entrepreneurship. Another observation is that increased educational opportunities accessible to African women and necessities as well as expanding African and international economies, have resulted in the highest women’s economic participation in the world, considered to amount to 60%. These factors have significantly elevated African women’s labour force participation and improved gender parity.

The upcoming Summit is intended to elevate the African Women’s latent
entrepreneurial potential to lead and accrue wealth and political power for the benefit of the continent. Hence, the Summit provides a useful Platform to activate concrete strategies and processes to empower women by taking advantage of the Commonwealth Advantage and the Intra Africa Trade Agreement.
